Darin James approaches the roles of drummer, producer, engineer and songwriter with mastery of skill. As a drummer, he has performed internationally with the award winning Stacy Mitchhart Band; a band that plays over 300 dates a year. Though not limited to a specific genre, Darin has performed R&B, Hip hop, Pop, Rock, Country, Gospel and Jazz. He has drummed for the likes of Lynn White, The Memphis Horns, Michael McDonald, Kimberly Locke, India Irie and Jessie McCartney. He has also engineered tracks for artists such as Take 6 (Remix) Sharon Riley, The Barkays, and Al Capone.
Darin has been featured in the Modern Drummer magazine eight times; has demonstrated the award winning Alesis DM10 drum kit at the summer 2009 NAMM Show; and was portrayed a drummer in the new Mario Van Peebles movie, Redemption Road.Darin continually strives for excellence in production. Not only has he co produced two award winning albums for the Stacy Mitchhart Band, he also co produced a song on Prince Damon’s album featuring E 40 (“Get Money”). His latest success was a composition for a Nike commercial featuring Kyrie Irving.Darin began his music career in Nashville, in 1997, as an engineer at the A Cut Above recording studio, through which he became experienced working with analogue and digital consoles such as Harrison, Neve, MCI, Soundcraft, Mackie, Tascam and Alesis. He also became proficient with computer programs such as Nuendo, Cubase, Logic, and Protools. This engineering background has ushered him into his current successes as recording engineer, songwriter, and producer for newer artists.Currently, he is working with the hip hop and R&B vocalist, ROME, whose voice carries a soulful vibe with cool tones and neo-cultural interpretations. He is also producing with a west coast band, The Voodoo Fix, a band that has recently had the opportunity to debut in Europe.Because of his sound diversity, Darin feels that he has made a considerable impact as a drummer, songwriter, and a knowledgeable producer and engineer, and he intends to strive for more; as he consistently says “Thank God ! I have no limits!”
